Research

The Seattle Aquarium has been conducting research for the past eight years under an informal program structure called The Seattle Aquarium Research Center for Conservation and Husbandry (SEARCCH).



Listed here are some of the research projects or you can download the SEARCCH 2008-2009 Annual Report for more details. 

  • Sea otter (Enhydra lutris) population genetics, conservation endocrinology, Northern sea otter (E.l. kenyoni) pup rehabilitation, and Washington sea otter annual census;
  • Six gill shark (Hexanchus griseus) diver sighting database, individual identification and population genetics;
  • River Otter (Lontra canadiensis) endocrinology;
  • Alcid (sea bird) reproductive physiology;
  • Giant Pacific Octopus (Enteroctopus doeflini) endocrinology and toxicology:
  • Leafy Sea Dragon (Phycodorus eques) population genetics and endocrinology;
  • Puget Sound Rockfish population genetics;
  • Larval rearing of Puget Sound Teleosts;
  • Population genetics of North Pacific Giant Squid Moroteuthis robustus;
  • Sea Turtle rehabilitation and satellite tracking.
