Did You Know?

Sea otters eat more than 25% of their body weight each day?

Marine Mammals

Mammals who know how to have fun

The most "action-packed" part of the Aquarium, the marine mammal exhibit features the always-entertaining sea otters, harbor seals and fur seals. The Seattle Aquarium has the distinction of being the first facility in the world to host a successful live birth of a sea otter. Visitors can view these mammals on the surface, or "from beneath the surface" in an underwater mammal viewing area. Watch the seals and sea otters as they swim and dive! At the water's surface seals bask in the sun while sea otters are continually at play. One of our most famous sea otters is Lootas. Lootas, Little Wave Eater is a children's book that tells the story of her younger days and how she came to the Aquarium. You can find out more about the book by visiting author Clare Hodgson Meeker's web site.
