Searching for Sixgills

Learn about Puget Sound's mysterious - and large! - sharks

Sixgill shark in Puget Sound.

Did you know that the third-largest predatory shark in the world is swimming in the waters of Puget Sound – in Seattle’s Elliott Bay and even directly below the Aquarium itself? Part of our working sixgill shark research program, this exhibit will introduce you to the wonders of sixgill sharks, as well as provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse into some of our important research activities.

You’ll see video footage of these menacing-looking and exceptionally private creatures, taken from the research station we established in the waters just below the Aquarium’s pier. You can also view highlights of a research night, discover what we’ve learned so far, and understand why it’s important. Interpreters are always on hand to help enrich your experience and deepen your understanding of the amazing sixgill shark.
