Membership FAQ

Answers to our frequently asked membership questions. For more specific questions, please contact our Membership Office (206) 838-3900.

General Questions

Instead of waiting in long lines to enter the Aquarium, come in through our main lobby doors and stay in the right lane which will allow you faster entry into the Aquarium. Please have your membership and ID card ready.
  • Membership card (if you don't have it, we can look you up in our system but it may take some time).
  • If you don't have your membership cards yet, you will need to bring in your copy of the application (if you purchased at the Aquarium) or your confirmation email (if you purchased online).
  • Identification of each adult member listed on your membership who is visiting that day.

For new memberships: It should take about two weeks from the time of purchase to receive your membership cards. In the meantime, please use your copy of the application or the confirmation email (if purchased online).

For membership renewals: As part of our conservation efforts, we no longer issue replacement membership cards when you renew; instead, we issue stickers with your new membership expiration date. Your stickers will be available for pickup at our admission gate. If you need replacement membership cards but have not yet requested them, please click here to request new cards.

If you purchased a Family Plus membership or have a Premier membership, then you have the flexible guest option as a benefit. A flexible guest is a guest that accompanies a member into the Aquarium. This member can be one of the listed adults or the listed member's child. Only one flexible guest is allowed into the Aquarium per visit, per member family.
We allow one name change per membership year. You will have to return both of your membership cards to us consenting that both originally listed adults agree to have the name changed.
One year from the end of the month that you purchased it in. Example: If you purchased on May 20, 2011, your expiration date would be May 31, 2012.
We give school groups a discounted price based on how many children are coming into the Aquarium with that group. School groups often receive classroom time with our education staff. Therefore, this group discount cannot be combined with your membership.
Memberships are non-transferable.
No, this membership only allows entry to the Seattle Aquarium.

Joining or Renewing

With the Aquarium Family and Family Plus levels you may have up to 5 of your (grand)children (18 & under) on your membership. If you have additional (grand)children there is a $10 fee per (grand)child per membership year (10 children maximum). This addition will be allowed once a year, if necessary.
No, our memberships are for families only. We do however offer discounts on group entry.
Our Family Plus membership with a flexible guest is the best way to go if you have a nanny or a local grandparent. Please see "How does a flexible guest work?" for more answers.
Yes. Day-of admission receipts are redeemable toward your membership if you purchase the membership that same day. Only one admission receipt valid towards a membership and can be used only for the individuals who purchased the admission tickets.

If you think a higher level membership will better fit your family, then we can upgrade you within your membership year. You will be asked to pay the remainder of the balance to upgrade you to the next level and your expiration date will stay the same. You will then be asked to use your copy of the application until new cards arrive.
Microsoft employees receive a 10% discount off their purchase of an Aquarium membership. This discount is only available in-person at the Aquarium front gate and your Microsoft PRIME card is required at time of purchase. Discount cannot be applied to previous purchases.

Gift Certificates and Gift Memberships

Gift certificates are mailed to you or the recipient and is active upon redemption. Perfect for gift giving! Gift memberships start immediately and membership cards will be sent directly to the recipient. Perfect for renewing existing members.
Purchasing a gift certificate or gift membership is as easy as purchasing a membership for yourself. In person, over the phone at (206) 838-3900 or on our website. If you purchase a gift certificate over our website, choose the membership level you would like to give and at the bottom of the first page there will be a box where you can request that the certificate be sent to you or the recipient. For gift memberships, use the “special message” box on the second page of the form to list the name of the second adult on the membership- if applicable.
If you receive a gift certificate, you will have to redeem it for the membership to activate. To redeem, please bring it into the Aquarium on your next visit or you can mail it to our membership office:

If you mail it in, please verify with our membership department that it has been processed by calling (206) 838-3900 or wait for your membership cards to arrive in the mail and then pick your guest passes up at our admissions gate. If you redeem your gift certificate in person, we will give you a temporary pass and your guest passes at that time.

Aquarium/Zoo Memberships

As an element of the Woodland Park Zoo new membership structure, both organizations have decided to end the Aquarium/Zoo joint membership program as of March 1, 2010.

Member Guests

Basic Aquarium Family Membership benefits include the option to bring up to two guests per membership per visit at half the admission price (adult member must be present).
No, your guest must be present to receive the discount and admission is only valid for that day.

Note: Guest passes are no longer being issued for memberships purchased on or after January 1, 2014. Gift certificates purchased before January 1, 2014 are entitled to our previous guest pass benefits if redeemed within six months of purchase. Our previous guest pass benefits are described below.

Come to the Aquarium with your membership card and our cashiers will issue you your guest passes if they haven't been redeemed yet. If you have a Family Plus membership, your flexible guest may sign for your guest passes if they have your membership card in hand. This is our way of making sure you are giving them approval to sign for your guest passes.
To use your guest passes, you must have them with you. We don't have the technology to track guest passes at this time.
Guest passes should be treated like cash. They will not be replaced.
No, you do not have to accompany a member to use a guest pass.

Website

Go to our website and in the upper right corner there is a "Login" button. Click that and it will bring you to our login page. All new members are assigned a login name and password which is emailed approximately 1-2 weeks after the membership is purchased. Please look for an email from the Seattle Aquarium with the subject “Your Seattle Aquarium Website Login is Enclosed”. After you login with this information, go to “My Account” at the bottom of any page and change your password per your preference.
You must log in to our website to register. See above “How do I log onto your website?” Log in to your online account on our website and on the left side menu there will be links to our events such as "MEMBERS-ONLY EVENTS" which will take you to the RSVP page.
When you login to our website, on the left side menu you'll see options for: events, discounts, plan your visit, purchase/renew, benefits, manage your account, view past donations or give new ones, etc. We are in the process of improving our website. If you have any suggestions, please email us.

Events

We only send our member event invites through our monthly member enewsletter. This saves us money and helps our environment by saving paper. To get these enewsletters, please login to our website and verify your email address. We hope to send enewsletters the first Wednesday of each month so keep an eye out!
Unfortunately we have limited space and many members who want to enjoy this benefit. Therefore we are keeping this event closed to non-members.
