Ocean Career Day

Saturday, February 2
9am-2pm

Come explore ocean-related careers at the Seattle Aquarium! Discuss career opportunities with biologists, researchers and educators. Attend special presentations by marine science professionals. And learn about schools and volunteer internship opportunities.

This event is open to students attending middle school, high school or college. Teachers and parents are also welcome.

Cost: Online registration is now closed. Tickets will be available to purchase at the door for $11. Limited scholarships are available.

Dr. Lesanna Lahner, Seattle Aquarium veterinarian

Lesanna is the staff veterinarian for the Seattle Aquarium. She obtained a dual degree, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Master of Public Health in wildlife disease (MPH), from the UW-Madison, Wisconsin. Lesanna previously worked for the USGS National Wildlife Health Center in Madison, WI as well as the Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, IL. She has a strong interest in marine animal medical care as well as conservation of marine animals and the marine environment through population health assessments.

Vivian Barry, Suquamish Tribe Fisheries Department shellfish program manager

Viviane fell in love with marine life while working summers at a whale research and education center (GREMM) in the St Lawrence Estuary in eastern Canada. She pursued a marine biology degree and completed a master of Marine Resources Management at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Since 2000, she has been involved in managing shellfish bivalve and crustacean resources for the Suquamish Tribe. Her goal is to increase harvest opportunities for the Suquamish Tribe members while ensuring sustainability of the resource.

Joel Hollander, Seattle Aquarium biologist and assistant dive safety officer

Joel is a biologist and assistant diving safety officer at the Seattle Aquarium. He holds a B.A. in Psychology and B.S. in General Biology, both from the Metropolitan State College of Denver in Colorado. He’s been on staff at the Aquarium since 2000 and specializes in temperate water vertebrate and invertebrate culture. As an assistant diving safety officer, he trains staff and volunteer divers and supervises the volunteer diver program, among other duties.
