What would happen if zoo and aquarium animals received reviews similar to those on websites like Amazon and Yelp? That question was answered hilariously last year, when #rateaspecies became a viral hit on social media. After the idea was launched by our friends at the Oregon Zoo, zoos and aquariums from all over the country—including yours truly—quickly jumped on board with the fun.
Holiday shopping alert! The Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), of which we’re proud to be an accredited member, has gathered 150 of the best jokes and images created by AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums and compiled them to create an uproarious new book, Animals Reviewed. It’s available starting October 29 in our gift shop, as well as from booksellers near and far.
Inside, you’ll find ridiculous reviews of animals like the cheetah (five stars, “faster than expected!”), arctic fox (two stars, “not a Pomeranian”), hippopotamus and more—including six animals from the Seattle Aquarium! We won’t give too much away, but suffice to say the clownfish has some work to do.
And this is a gift you can feel great about giving (even if it’s a gift to yourself!) because all proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit the AZA’s mission to advance animal welfare, public engagement and conservation. A must-have for animal lovers of all ages, and priced at just $9.95. Grab your copy in our gift shop and then visit our exhibits to see if you agree with the reviews!
