Sodexo, the Aquarium’s café/catering partner, recently received an “Outie” award for workplace excellence at the Out & Equal Workplace Summit in Seattle. The award recognizes Sodexo for their historic and ongoing commitment to pursuing and executing workplace inclusion and equality for LGBT employees. This is just the latest accolade for Sodexo, which is consistently recognized for leadership in diversity and inclusion.
Sodexo’s commitment to excellence in this area is just one of the reasons that the company is particularly well-matched to partner with the Seattle Aquarium. Our work to be inclusive and welcoming to all is reflected in a variety of initiatives—with our visitors, through our volunteers and amongst our staff. It benefits the Aquarium experience and also radiates out into the community through programs such as Connections, which provides complimentary admission tickets to underserved populations through a variety of human service organizations across King County.
Sustainability is another key area in which our partnership with Sodexo thrives. As a conservation organization, we prioritize green practices in our facility and actively promote actions that our visitors and the general public can take to help preserve Puget Sound and the ocean. Sodexo shares that commitment—adhering to the Seafood Watch recommendations for sustainable seafood, sourcing local/seasonal/sustainably grown products, providing sustainability training for each of their employees, and more.
We were particularly proud to partner with Sodexo at the icebreaker event for the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) annual conference last month. Working together, we hosted the first-ever carbon-neutral icebreaker event and helped set a new standard for future conferences.
We are proud to have Sodexo as our partner and grateful for the commitments we share!
