On a wet and windy day in January, a field research excursion that almost didn’t happen ended up being a life-saving experience for a young fur seal pup.
A life-threatening situation with a happy ending is also a sobering reminder of how critically important it is to keep marine habitats clean and free of pollution. On May 22, Memorial Day, a young visitor to the Aquarium tossed a small object into the main sea otter pool, where northern fur seals Flaherty and Leu were spending the day.
Join the Seattle Aquarium for Winter Fishtival, where we’ll feature different sea animals and fun activities each day. Our focus on January 3 will be marine mammals: river otters, sea otters, northern fur seals and harbor seals.
On the night of July 11, 2012, the New England Aquarium in Boston, MA welcomed a new northern fur seal pup to the family. Ursula, a female fur seal residing at the aquarium gave birth to a healthy male pup and the father is our very own Isaac!
Your support connects people to the ocean in a way not otherwise possible and inspires bold action to care for animals and protect our shared marine environment.
