It is with great sadness that we announce that Woodstock, the Seattle Aquarium’s 24-year-old female northern fur seal, has passed away. Woody, as she was known, was quite elderly for a fur seal (females in the wild have a life span of 15–20 years) and her health had been declining for the past several months.
If you volunteer at the Seattle Aquarium, chances are you have that one animal that’s your favorite. For me, it’s two: our northern fur seals, Commander and Woodstock.
Your support connects people to the ocean in a way not otherwise possible and inspires bold action to care for animals and protect our shared marine environment.
