January 7, 2026—Seattle Aquarium President & CEO Peggy Sloan is departing the Aquarium, Board Chair Charles Wright, Jr. announced. In her place, Chief Operating Officer Meg McCann will transition into the role of Acting President & CEO, effective today.
“The Seattle Aquarium Board has the utmost respect for Peggy’s distinguished conservation career, and we are grateful for her service to our nonprofit institution and community,” Wright, Jr. said. “The Board wishes Peggy every success in her future endeavors.”
“I am grateful to have been part of the Seattle Aquarium’s first full year as an expanded campus in the heart of our city’s new waterfront,” Sloan said. “I’ve enjoyed working with the talented staff and volunteers at the Aquarium, who share my passion for marine life, and I will be wishing them well as fellow ocean advocates.”
Sloan joined in May 2025 following the retirement of longtime President & CEO Bob Davidson. COO Meg McCann, who previously served as Acting CEO while Davidson was on leave, will serve as Acting CEO, Wright, Jr. said, with the Board’s strong support. As COO, McCann has successfully led cross-Aquarium initiatives to improve operations, set strategic priorities, and strengthen communication and culture. Sloan’s exit will not impact the guest experience or Aquarium programs, Wright, Jr. noted.
During 2025, the Aquarium celebrated the first anniversary of its Ocean Pavilion, saw a record number of visitors, welcomed southern sea otter Ruby and joined the International Union for Conservation of Nature. In 2027, the Aquarium will celebrate its 50th anniversary.
