Did you know that a group of sea otters is called “a raft?” When floating at sea, otters hold hands or wrap themselves in kelp to stay connected, protected and supported. Their fluffy brown group looks like a floating raft.
Just like otters, we’re stronger when we stick together. It takes an entire community to support our marine environment. Join the Otter Raft!

For decades, Seattle Aquarium has been active in conservation work—including monitoring sea otter rafts. Within the Aquarium and beyond, our work includes conservation engagement and education, research, public policy and species recovery programs.
