Getting here

The Seattle Aquarium is located at the center of Seattle’s historic central waterfront. Our campus includes three buildings: Pier 59, Pier 60 and the Ocean Pavilion.

No matter where you’re coming from, your day on the waterfront can be made much easier with a little planning.

Public Transit

Public transportation is a great way to get to the Aquarium while reducing vehicle emissions and supporting marine ecosystems. The Link light rail train and many bus routes serve the area. Explore transit options below. You can also plan your transit trip using King County Metro’s trip planner.  

Free public transit to the Aquarium

To make your trip easier, we’ve partnered with King County Metro to offer you free fare on Link light rail trains, Metro buses or other transit services*, while supplies last.

To use this offer: 

This offer is good for 600 points or $6 worth of transit, which covers a roundtrip on the Link light rail train or a Metro bus. Limit one per customer. 

  1. Download the Transit GO Ticket app. 
  2. Click this link on your phone. You will be automatically directed to the Rewards section of the Transit GO Ticket app. 
  3. Enter the rewards code sent in your Aquarium ticket confirmation email. This will add 600 points to your balance. 
  4. When you’re ready for your trip and know which transit service(s) you’ll use, go to the “Redeem” section of the app, select a transit ticket and tap “redeem.” Your transit ticket will now be available in the “Use” section of the Transit GO Ticket App, located in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. 
  5. When it’s time for your trip, activate your ticket before boarding transit.

Did you know that all youth 18 and under already ride free on all transit in Washington state? Order a free youth ORCA card at FreeYouthTransitPass.com. Please allow up to two weeks to receive the youth ORCA card in the mail.** 

*This free transit offer does not apply to the Monorail.  It applies to the following services: King County Metro buses, Link light rail trains, Sounder trains, Water taxi, Seattle Streetcar, Lime and Bird micromobility, Metro Community Shuttles, Community Vans, Community Ride, Trailhead Direct, Via to Transit, Access service and Kitsap Transit buses.

**Youth ORCA cards are encouraged but not required for free youth fare on all transit. The Monorail does require a card.

Explore transit Options

Take the Link light rail train (1 or 2 line) to Symphony Station, just a 10-minute walk to the Aquarium. To reach the waterfront, exit at Symphony station and head west/downhill along University Street toward the water. From there, turn right and walk north toward Pier 59 to reach the Aquarium.

Bus

Many bus routes come near the waterfront. King County Metro offers an online trip planner to make your journey a breeze.

Ferry and water taxi

Enjoy a scenic ride across the water. Take a Washington State ferry from Bremerton or Bainbridge Island to Colman Dock at Pier 52 or sail from Vashon Island or West Seattle to Pier 50 on a water taxi.

Bike

Explore new protected bike lanes along the waterfront, north and south of the Aquarium. Bike racks are conveniently located along the waterfront.

Nearby Parking

Pike Place Market Garage

The Pike Place Market Garage is located near the Aquarium and offers over 800 parking stalls with accessible parking and an elevator to the waterfront.

To get to the Seattle Aquarium from the Pike Place Market Garage, take the garage stairs or elevator (located near the center of the garage) to the 2nd floor. Follow signs leading to the pedestrian exit on Alaskan Way. Once you exit the garage, walk south to the nearest stoplight and cross the street at the Pike Street pedestrian crosswalk.

Please note: Pike Place Market Garage spots are not available for booking through SpotHero. 

1531 Western Avenue: Entrance located on the west side of Western Avenue, below Pike Place Market and between Fix Madore and Lazonga Tattoo. Follow the signs for the waterfront elevator and stairs.

1901 Western Avenue: Entrance located on the west side of Western Avenue, about 100 yards uphill from/north of the 1531 Western Avenue entrance. You can walk down or take an elevator to reach the waterfront.

1530 Alaskan Way: Entrance located on the east side of Alaskan Way, just below the overhead walkway connecting Pike Place Market to the Ocean Pavilion.

Metered parking

Limited four-hour metered parking is available along Alaskan Way.

Accessible drop-off location

The accessible drop-off area is located in the loading zone in front of the Seattle Aquarium on the west (southbound) side of Alaskan Way. This loading zone is NOT for parking. Parking here will block access for school buses and our accessible drop-off.
