Seattle Aquarium is delighted to welcome harbor seal Flounder to his new home in the Pacific Northwest!
For decades, the Seattle Aquarium has provided homes to harbor seals and other marine mammals unable to live in the wild while raising awareness of their importance to marine ecosystems.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Flounder,” Lisa Hartman, Seattle Aquarium’s Vice President of Animal Care, says. “We are always seeking opportunities to advance our mission by providing safe and welcoming homes to marine mammals that cannot live in the wild and for whom we can provide excellent care.”
Flounder is a harbor seal who was born at the Miami Seaquarium. Following their closure in October 2025, there was an effort to find homes for the animals that had been living there. As a 12-year-old seal who has relied on human caregivers since birth, Flounder cannot live in the wild. Luckily, the Seattle Aquarium had space to welcome Flounder to our harbor seal habitat and provide him a safe, caring home.
Flounder joins Casey and Hogan in the harbor seal habitat. You can visit them every day from 9:30am to 6pm at the Seattle Aquarium.
