Lightning Talks: Salmon

A white wave shape.

Lightning Talks: Salmon aired on November 14, 2024. During this event we learned about the iconic anadromous fish of the Pacific Northwest! (Wait, what’s that? Anadromous fish, like salmon, are born in freshwater, migrate to the open ocean and return to freshwater to spawn). Five speakers had five minutes each to wow with one big—and fascinating—idea about salmon.

Featured speakers

  • Rayne Billings (Seattle Aquarium)
    The orca/salmon connection

  • Katie Engel (Seattle Aquarium)
The life of salmon as they return to their stream

  • Celeste Kieran (Simon Fraser University)
    Salmon’s impact on terrestrial ecosystems

  • Mendy Harlow (Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group)
    Duckabush Estuary Restoration Project

  • Jason Gubatayao (Sealaska)
Restoration work in partnership with Indigenous tribes
