Seattle Aquarium’s Darcie Larson named Vice President of Conservation Engagement and Learning

The Seattle Aquarium is excited to share that Darcie Larson has accepted a full-time position as Vice President of Conservation Engagement and Learning, following nearly a year of exceptional leadership in the interim role.

“I’m very excited to continue leading our amazing teams as we seize the opportunity for conservation engagement provided by our expanded campus on Seattle’s revitalized waterfront,” Darcie said.

Darcie has 25 years of experience in marine conservation, education, and outreach based in the Seattle area. In her 17 years at the Aquarium, she has spent time as a marine science interpreter, as a beach naturalist, and as a manager. In her new role, Darcie will continue to oversee the Aquarium’s conservation engagement and learning teams, which offer programs to visitors, schools and the community, as well as host marine summer camp, provide volunteer opportunities, and more. The teams provide school programs, the Connections Program, and Aquarium volunteer programming, including adult volunteer programs, Youth Ocean Advocates, as well as the Beach Naturalist and Cedar River Salmon Journey programs.

“Our staff and volunteers create connections between people and the animals in our care every day,” Darcie said. “These connections inspire people to care, and to take action to protect our marine environment.”

Since the Seattle Aquarium opened in 1977, volunteers have contributed over one million hours of service supporting our mission of Inspiring Conservation of Our Marine Environment. You can learn more about the Aquarium’s volunteer opportunities here and public programs here.
